Average resting BPM for the population is 72 beats a minute...have you checked yours recently?
Imagine having to clench and unclench your
fist 103,680 times a day...would need to be pretty strong and resilient yes? I'd expect a pretty sore hand as well ;-)
If your heart beats 72 times a minute this is how many times it beats in a day...pretty amazing isn't it?
When we do cardio training we can
reduce, over time, our resting heart rate by approx 1 BPM every two weeks until we reach a certain point.
For every 10 beats per minute you drop your resting heart rate (as you get fitter through effective cardio vascular conditioning) your heart beats approx............... 14400 times LESS a day.
The reason for this is that the heart gets stronger, so it pumps more blood round the body with each beat (stroke volume). Therefore the higher the stroke volume the less the heart needs to beat to deliver the blood to all our muscles.
Often we we focus on CV work in the gym as a method to reduce fat mass.
Wouldn't a focus on training to increase the strength of the heart be a better focus?
Look after those tickers,
J
