This is my favourite time of year.
Being a PT the first two months of the year are really full with client sessions, long hours,
business planning and the excitement of the year to come.
We don't get time to train ourselves...ironic isn't it?
Spring time opens up more time to get our training done...
New year
focus and energy is still present, however a real impetus on what you want to achieve for the summer months is needed to help keep us on track.
I find a quick recap on how last summer went is really motivating:
- did I squeeze every last minute of sunshine time out of every day?
nearly
- did I spend summer eves sitting front of the TV when I could be out with the kids, the dog or on my bike? a few times!
- did I get out for a run on those gorgeous summer mornings? mostly
This is where the prep and planning starts to improve on last year, this is what I did this weekend:
- Bike tyres pumped up, helmet, gloves and lights checked and hung next to the bike. (cycle shorts much tighter than last year...oops!)
- Summer run kit put in one place and ready
- Dog promised that walks will happen every eve
- Kids bikes ready
That is the logistics, the easy bit.
Next comes the mental
prep:
- the nearly/ mostly/ a few times responses from above will be improved upon.
- I've looked back across my camera and facebook for those pics from the summer rides and runs....I'm excited and ready!
- I've even cancelled our Virgin subscription, TV is just TV
now!
- darker eves are going to be used to get ahead with work
- friends that promised to come out with me on rides etc are being pestered
- diary entries being set up for eves that I'm not working for activities...less likely to miss them if in there
I have found this process really sets me up for
a spring and summer that improves upon the last one.
It takes away the singular motivations such as being slimmer for hols or having to break out the T shirts and shorts.....and moves me towards upgrading my lifestyle....fitter body and looser shorts and T shirts is a nice by-product!
Happy springtime!
