Hi
It's a fabulous time of the year.
Freedom to spend time with loved ones, cheesy movies that you can all watch
together and being thankful for all that we have.
Just as we train our bodies for a specific sport in a fluctuating or periodised process, we can also make the most of a change in environment and the extra time.
We do different routines in the holiday seasons:
- Sitting down more, or less
- carrying shopping around the town
- more, or less, time in bed
- more walks with family
- more standing time than in our usual environment.
In total we probably move much more than during usual working/daily life.
So, how
can we use the extra time to our advantage?
- mobility work every day, especially hip flexors, lower back if lots of sofa time.
- drink more water, have a huge bottle by you at all times
- reconnect with family, huge stress reducer!
- incorporate some resistance training: make the most of less laptop time to
straighten out.
- walk more every day
- if been training hard all year then giving your body and mind a rest for this period offers a great opportunity to deload and decompress mind and muscles
- lemon juice in water every morning, keep that liver healthy
- sloooow down
- if into weight lifting, use those extra calories with some longer work outs
Although the Christmas to new year season is somewhat a time to have some time to relax, using the extra time we have for the above can make a huge difference to our following year.
Get it wrong and we start the year sluggish....get it right and we crush
it!
