How I reset my 'sweet tooth'...

Now The festive season is over, it is time for one of my favourite quotes!

Half way through the year is a good reminder to keep this on track.

Having a healthy 'baseline' of limited 'naughty' foods (5% total calories) all year round means we have space for a splurge at the festive season where we can put life into living.

However, this does not mean caloric restriction from all year until Xmas.

We advise eat more healthy fats, protein, complex carbohydrates and drink more water instead of refined carbohydrates (sugar), alcohol and processed foods.

So how do we get our refined carbohydrates intake down?

How about taking part in the 'strawberry challenge'?

it is possible to 'reset' your sweet tooth?
on day 1 eat a strawberry (or other sweet fruit if prefer)...note how it tastes
aim is to reduce your refined carbohydrates (sugar!) as much as possible for 30 days
yes this means anything that tastes sweet also (sorry not artificial sweeteners!)
after 30 days eat another strawberry...this should taste MUCH sweeter than the day 1 strawberry

Of course this is hard.

(It also has nothing really to do with strawberries!)

Reducing the amount of sweet foods will increase our sensitivity of taste to sweetness. Obvious benefit is less intake of sugar, however you may also notice that when you do have something sweet you don't have that much of it to be satisfied.

Another level up is when something less natural than fruit or honey comes your way such as a boiled sweet or a cookie it can really taste almost artificial.

(nothing against cookies or sweets BTW...just limit them to 5% of the days calories!)

Overall it's worth a shot as we find people report back feeling so much better reducing refined carbohydrates.

It's also a really good achievement so adds confidence to anyone on a health journey to know that they can make a change and stick to it.
