If that was us in the picture above, would we hit rep 10 of those push ups if that chap in the vest wasn't there?
There is the bonus
question....can I fully motivate MYSELF!?
Now, I'm not saying ditch all the tools, apps, gadgets and gizmos that give us data and feedback that motivates. Just maybe a bit more accountability to ourselves may be the boost we need?
I see it often. A quick cue from me on that
last rep of a set of squats to 'brace and push hard as I KNOW you can do it' to a client always results in that extra little bit of strength to get it done.
That extra reminder to a client to 'foam roll and stretch daily' as they walk out the door of the studio, or a cheeky text half way through the week from me, often results in
it happening as they know I will be asking next session!
After a while this isn't needed as the value in doing the mobilisation work becomes self fulfilling and its a more rare occurrence when it doesn't happen.
And it goes further still...when the mobility work is
missed and the body gets tight again it highlights even more how important this is so even less likely to miss a day again.
Right there it becomes a habit, it becomes just something 'that they do!'
It is those little successes build up bigger and bigger....until they can change our lives!
When it is just us there alone, wondering whether to get to the gym this morning, walk the dog after dinner or push through that last rep of a squat, simply show up and do the work for YOURSELF.
And...be proud when you do ANYTHING for yourself, however small the success is it leads to bigger and bigger ones across the years!
Just be 1% better every day...for yourself :-D
