I’ve been trying to perfect my Barbell single leg deadlift for a long time now.
Frustrated that I
can’t get the form I do on two legs.
But...I shouldn’t be.
Our bodies are phenomenally adaptive.
Muscular, cardiovascular, vestibular systems all adapt and ‘learn’ from EVERY move we make.
Our brains are capable of changing fast as we develop new skills.
- We can change our entire character with a bit of a focus and consistent work on how we think about things.
- We can change our bodies with a bit of focus on how we move, coupled with a bit of a challenge through hard work.
When I think back to when I first picked up a dumbbell and flapped it around hoping my muscles will grow I realise how far I’ve come.
I put in the hard work and my body changed, I now coach others to do the same.
What we should all remember is that we have the most incredible piece of ‘kit’ in the known universe.
We are blessed with this gift of life, and I for one am doing my best to appreciate it more.
Try not to just focus on the amazing ‘results’ you see on the latest advert for a nutrition plan of gym programme.
These come, but later and after the work has been done.
Focus on the very next thing you will do now to better yourself.
Anything from that first small run in years, or a quick stretch tonight that those Fitness types are saying we should do, will illicit HUGE adaptations in your body. Not to mention your mind and mood.
The more we learn about our ability to change, and all those fantastic improvements..the more we will show up and do the work.
However repetitive it may feel and illusive those big changes seem...use solid, scientific and well grounded knowledge to highlight to yourself the almost invisible gains you are
achieving.
How your feel and perform is a good place to
start..
