Are we correct when we say that men ‘just don’t live as long as women’?
Or,
should we change it to ‘men 'CHOOSE' to not live as long as women’?
I can only comment on my own choices, as I’m not a psychologist or a mind reader, but even now I am still pretty stubborn when it comes to taking the (usually correct!) advice from others.
I’ll put my hands up and admit that, pride, ego, fear to confront something I
should address and even a fear of looking ‘weak’ or damaged to another person is DEFINITELY a huge part of it.
I am much better at making the right choice these days, however it has taken years of study, coaching other men and seeing first hand the stress that can be relieved when an issue is acknowledged and dealt with.
Guys, and people that care for
guys..more needs to be done!
We need to reposition taking ownership of our health as a STRENGTH!
Showing other men, and more importantly, the next generation that living longer, thriving into old age and being powerful does NOT happen by
chance.
We need to EARN it with hard, constant work..and by being BRAVE enough to ask for help!
So, you, our readers (male and female!), can help
us.
I have been invited to a discussion forum with our local council on this very topic.
I only have my own my own personal and professional experience so need more input from a larger range of men.
PLEASE have a think and drop me back a note on the below (all info will be passed on
anomalously):
- What would, or has made it easier for you (or men you know) to get help with physical or mental issues?
- What can we do to help men (or men you know) get help with issues EARLIER?
- How
can we make the discussions around mental well-being easier to start and continue?
- What clubs, societies, groups (for men or young men and boys) do you suggest that the councils could approach to reach out to with information?
This goes deeper than a quick email
on health, any reply that you can put together will go direct to helping the largest reach possible with the backing of a district council.
Please take 5 minutes out of your day to put some time to this.
Your input is very much appreciated!
