For those just starting on a fitness journey remember that:
- All the slim and muscular people you see
in the gym/ classes or out and about are just at a further stage along a fitness journey than you are. Most have been at the stage you are at before so will NOT be judging you.
- Perfection is key, whether it is excellent form on a rep, good running gait or just effective mobility work. Hire a well respected Personal Trainer to get you started (it's worth the investment to save you time).
- Start small, learn one lift perfectly (squat for example..see previous emails) with body weight only .....just focus on getting that right for a while. Master it and move on.
- It's not about the weight/ resistance. Perfect form is learnt with lighter/no weight.
- You will feel awkward in the beginning but missed reps, strange unbalanced movements and
dropping things are all part of learning. Our brain is amazing and learns with every movement what is good and bad, rejects the bad and enhances the new. These little failures perfect our movement patterns bit by bit.
- You are starting on a life journey so it won't happen overnight, in fact, the times that motivation is at the lowest and it seems that nothing is changing occur just before another change is
coming..so be patient.
- You need to learn how to not listen to the excuses you will hear in your head. Just put that kit on and get out there.
Lastly, remember that all bad habits leave a vacuum. Nature hates a vacuum so if you give up a bad habit you must replace with a good one...
