I had some 'feedback' (via a trainer I used to work with) on my PT skills from another trainer I worked alongside years ago.
Apparently, said trainer said that the reason I am successful as a PT is
because of my personality...not on my technical knowledge.
Firstly, my reaction could be as it used to be: 'only small dogs bark at big dogs, rarely the other way round'
These days, being a 'wiser' 40 y/o, I like to think through situations before I react:
- This trainer did know me when I had just started out...so they were probably right.
- Doesn't a good personality (if I have one...I can't tell as I'm obviously
biased!) mean that we can gel with clients well? If they like you then surely they will work with you and therefore reach success in their journey?
- Technical knowledge is really important as a trainer, but when a client knows you really care about their wellbeing and needs...they don't mind if you can't name every muscle in the body!
Get to the point James...
Our persona, ego,
subconscious, situation and confidence shapes the person we are...or want to become.
If I hadn't had displayed the utmost confidence in my training from my very first client I wouldn't have grown as a trainer as wouldn't have recruited any clients!
Aside from being qualified, I'd also personally been through all the heartache, frustration, embarrassed moments and stupid mistakes as I lost 35kg of fat mass and got myself
fit.
I had to 'fake it' as a trainer as I was new, however having the empathy to work with a client in the same situation I had been in was my USP.
Whatever stage you are at on your journey, keeping one step ahead of your current mindset and totally believing that you will be the person you want to become/ have the body you want is VITAL.
Ask
any motivational speaker, athlete, millionaire or person of note how they got to where they have done and a huge part of it will be self belief, self worth and 'acting' like that person WELL before they actually arrived there!
I'm far from psychologist and may be way off track here, however I have noticed in my own training and fat loss that my physical shape and strength rarely took a leap forward until I believed I could
get past the next plateau.
BE the person you want to become and you will become them
Visualise yourself being that person doing what you want to do
Keep ahead of yourself,
J
