Could stubbornness be an enemy of health?

Hi

'Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof'

John Kenneth Galbraith
I know I used to be stubborn and, as the process moves fast in the health and fitness realm, it can quickly get overwhelming and frustrating as new ideas conflict with current.

Coupled with the fact that every fitpro these days has a book, online product or course to sell...this adds to the mix considerably.

We NEED to become more flexible and more open minded to new things to get healthier

Where we ARE now is the result of your decisions, actions and effort that you have applied up to this very second

We need to often remind ourselves how well we are doing, and also focus on those above decisions, actions and efforts from your past that have been the RIGHT course for you.

However, I'd wager that there are a few times in the past where we have made the wrong decisions, actions or effort that have held us back YET still maybe think and believe these are positive for us.

Keeping a keen eye on what course we are on and making minor alterations as we go is far more effective than trying to make one massive change later on when behaviours and beliefs are deep rooted.

A large proportion of what we KNOW works in the strength and fitness training arena is still yet to be proven scientifically.

Ideas that were classed as 'woo woo' and quackery now are gaining traction as studies are being carried out.

However, there is still a lot of piffle out there so buyer beware!

I've certainly changed my mind often as I learn more about the human body and how it responds to stimulus. A good coach has to.

There are as many ways to get fit and lean as there are people in the world so what works for you won't work for someone else.

It works the other way too. A few times I've had a client that tries a nutrition plan that doesn't fit my current thinking, only to be impressed by the results.

As soon as this happens I look into the plan as deep as I can as it always teaches me something.

So, be flexible, open minded and keep an eye on what works for you.

Reject anything that doesn't!
