Plug yourself into the Earth...

Hi

The health and fitness industry is awe inspiring due to the amount of info we have discovered, and what is even more exciting is what we don't know.

All we do have, despite how it seems sometimes...most of what we think we know about our bodies (and our connection to the earth) is only really our best guess.

Out on the fringes of this sphere sits some pretty amazing theories which at first seem quite 'out there', only to pop up in a series of studies that actually end up giving them some substance!

One of these is the concept of Grounding/ Earthing. Just like our house electrics use the earth to ground it, then some trains of thoughts (and mounting studies) suggest we can get a similar effect on our bodies when we stand barefoot on earth, sand, grass etc.

Research suggest the following benefits:
  • Provides your body with abundant electrons from the Earth.
  • Major impact on the inflammatory process as a result of this electron transfer.
  • Our bodies need an abundant supply of negative charges, a regular supply of electrons from the earth can supply this.
  • A variety of measures of physiological stress show that the person who is grounded is less stressed and more relaxed. These measures demonstrate a shift from sympathetic to parasympathetic activation, reduction in muscle tension, and increased heart rate variability.
  • Regardless whether or not grounding reduces exposure to environmental fields, studies firmly demonstrate that Earthing does not stress the body; in fact, Earthing reduces every measure of stress used in studies.
Can't hurt to try it right?

Anecdotally, I walk the dog barefoot across the park and definitely notice feeling more relaxed. Especially after a day with my face in a laptop.

We all know the 'ahhhh' feeling when we take our shoes off in the grass or warm sand. Also, have you every noticed how relaxed you get when camping and sleeping close to the ground?

Having an open mind to new concepts is a very important step in your health journey.

3 years ago you would never have got me to got to a Bikram Yoga session. I have my first one on Friday :-D

If you do what you have always done ...you get what you always have

It'll take 5 minutes...kick off those shoes and get out in the garden now
