Could focusing on 'belly fat' be exactly what is holding you back?

Hi

Society expectations have a lot to answer for when it comes to bellies, posture and our internal organs...
We have a lot going on in our pelvis/ torso area:
  • Kidneys
  • Liver
  • Stomach
  • Intestines
  • Reproductive organs
  • Bladder
We all hold our tummies in to some level most of the time.

Who decided that we need a flat tummy to be healthy? (oh...that will be the media again!)

Have you ever seen primates, babies, young kids do this?

My guess is that you haven't, they let it all hang out naturally

Things brace when they move with a natural flow of movement any athlete will be jealous of!

The muscles of our torso are really important to hold everything in place to a certain extent and also vital for ALL movements.

However, have you ever wondered where any mass that we 'suck' in goes?

It goes up, down or back into the area where all these VITAL organs sit, squashing them and possibly even blocking flow of digestion, blood, breath and liquids.

On a deeper level, continuously holding this tension from whatever direction can add strength to some musculature over others.

THIS can effect our posture in the WHOLE body!

In this fine, amazing balance of torso (notice I don't use the word CORE!) muscles each one has a job to stabilise, provide movement and control anti rotation.

For the same reason a good strength program balances movements and intensities across the body, we need to make sure we don't over-develop some of these delicate and specific muscles over others.

Especially as holding a position out of our natural geometry across the day occurs  ALL day!

Of course I'm not saying to let everything hang out all day (I know I don't!) however could just relaxing when on your own or as often as you can release some of this pressure for your important bits?

Maybe a really good reason to take focus OFF the fat around our belly, embrace and provide freedom to our inner biology and get training for strength, energy and stamina?

I have seen a huge increase in results in people that I have worked with when they let the wonderful positive responses that occur in their bodies from consistent and balanced training guide their journey.

I know this works as I've been through it too...check it out below:
Worrying too much about our 'wobbly bits' can hold us back, demotivate us and waste precious mental energy.

They are there and we know exactly why :-D

These are the only things to focus on:
  • how do I feel?
  • how do I perform?
  • how much energy do I have?
If these are improving you are on the right track and all the effort you are putting into your health is working...you just can't always see it in the mirror!

Confidence should come from focusing on what your body can DO and challenging it...what it LOOKS like will catch up in time!
