Disagree with your mind?!

Hi

Just because our mind may decide that something is stressful, upsetting, negative or unhappy doesn't mean we have to agree!
I am not saying we should all ignore our emotions and walk about like cold hearted robots!

Of course we will get angry, sad, down and frustrated...however can we learn to recognise how we feel, pause, step aside and then view the whole situation from a distance to get the reality of the whole affair.

Ever notice how easy it is to be subjective and effective as a friend when we are talking through someone else's problem?

Crystal clear vision from that perspective isn't it?!

We often seem to save all the wallowing in self doubt, worry, pity and harsh judgement for ourselves don't we?

I've been trying to use stressful situations as almost a trial to try and snap myself out of the thick of it and come at it from a different angle.

Almost taking a pause and thinking through..

1. What would 'old' James do?
2. What is the reality?
3. What should 'new' James do?

(yes even with the kids and on the road!)

Emotions are innate and built into our entire make up, they are here to stay, good AND bad.

Fear, worry and distrust are innate from our evolution to help us survive.

We lived longer if we were more cautious...

We also REALLY had to fight, take flight or freeze!

Thankfully the risks these days are considerably less, so maybe the need for this innate stress is slightly outdated and we should recognise this?

Try telling yourself this with a grin the next time the stress levels rise....
